THCa flower refers to cannabis buds that contain tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCa), the precursor to THC. It is federally legal in the U.S. because it is derived from plants that contain less than 0.3% Delta-9-THC, in line with the 2018 Farm Bill. When THCa is smoked or vaped, the heat causes a chemical reaction called decarboxylation, converting THCa into Delta-9-THC, which produces psychoactive effects (the high).
